Music, flea market, jumping frogs, fishing kids at Colton Country Days this weekend

COLTON -- The 32nd Colton Country Days will be held July 18 and 19 downtown featuring the always-popular frog jumping contest, kids fishing derby, live music, flea market and fireworks show.

Crafters, artists, bakers and flea market vendors will be selling their goods from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

There will also be children’s games, a used book sale, Colton Museum open house and concessions throughout the weekend.

The traditional frog jumping contest gets things started Saturday at the Colton Museum at 9:30 a.m. Register at 9 a.m.

Enjoy the Colton Fire Department’s chicken barbeque at 11 a.m. and listen to the music of the Jack Kelly Little Big Band at noon.

The firemen’s parade is slated for 2 p.m.

The Sock Rock Cabaret will be presented again following the parade on Main Street at 3:30 p.m.

The Sunday Rock Legacy Project is a collaborative effort of the Colton Historical Society, Colton-Pierrepont Central School and the Grasse River Players to embrace local history, education and theatre.

A fireworks show sponsored by the Higley Association will be held Saturday at dusk at the firemen’s field on Gulf Road.

An ice cream social will precede fireworks at 7:30 p.m. Music will be provided at 9 p.m. Admission is free but there is charge for food and beverages. Donations toward fireworks will be accepted at the gate. Rain date is July 19.

The Friends of Hepburn Library of Colton will host a used book sale Friday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. The sale will be held at the town hall.

Vendors can reserve spaces for $15 for a 10X10 area and $25 for a double space. Info: 265-2524.
