LISBON -- Lights on the River will light up Lisbon Beach Dec. 12 to 22 for the sixth year while raising money for 13 food pantries in St. Lawrence County.

More than 70 businesses, organizations and families will construct creative holiday light displays on the beach for the public to drive around the beach and campground and see. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes to see all the displays.

People can view the displays from 5 until 9 p.m. each night at the beach, 9975 State Highway 37.

Cash proceeds and canned food donations will be donated to area food pantries. Admission is free but most people choose to donate cash or food.

The event has raised over $75,000 through its five years.

Lights On the River added the Ogdensburg branch of the Salvation Army to the list of food pantries that will benefit from this year’s event.

Other pantries the event will help include Canton Church and Community Program, Canton, Gouverneur, Hammond, Massena, Ogdensburg and Potsdam neighborhood centers, Heuvelton Lisbon and Richville food pantries, Norwood-Norfolk-Raymondville Outreach and Waddington Family and Resource Center.

In 2010 the event started with 25 entries and has grown each year to include more than 70, including 75 last year.

The fundraiser is sponsored in part by Cargill, United Way, Ogdensburg Lowes and Acco.

Anyone can participate and set up a Christmas themed display at no charge, or make a monetary contribution by contacting info@lightsontheriver.org or calling Scott Wilhelm at 854-2657.
