POTSDAM -- The largest vendor show in the North Country is expected to draw around 4,000 shoppers to Clarkson’s Cheel Arena Oct. 16 and 17, featuring over 100 vendors of all kinds at the St. Lawrence Chamber of Commerce’s Craft, Food and Wine Show.

“We are full,” said Jo Ann Roberts, events and promotions manager at the chamber.

More than 120 vendors, around 20 new ones, will offer handmade everyday and holiday gifts, including jewelry, furniture and art of all kinds. Vendors will be in the lobby and on the arena floor.

This year’s show includes eight wineries, 24 food vendors, and several first time participants from all over New York and Vermont.

The event opens Friday, Oct. 16, at noon and runs through 8 p.m. The show continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Roberts said that when vendors report record sales that the news spreads fast about the success of the show. “We have loyal vendors,” she said.

Roberts said she received a call recently from a woman in Boston inquiring about attending the show. She had heard about the vendor show from someone in Manhattan.

“It goes to show the widespread conversation and reputation of our show,” she said.

The show has been a staple in St. Lawrence County for over 25 years. The show was originally started by Clarkson University with the “Autumn Craft Fair,” Roberts said.

Then Clarkson was looking to get out of hosting the and event turned over control to the county chamber. The chamber changed the name and added the food and wine focus, she said.

“It has grown a lot since the chamber took over,” Roberts said.

New this year will be buses that will shuttle people from Pine Street Arena to Cheel.

“Feedback from vendors and shoppers led us to address parking issues,” Roberts said.

NYSARC buses will continuously bring people on Friday and Saturday to and from the show. The bus will run from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The chamber has paid for the service so there will be no charge to shoppers.

The show is a little earlier this year and Roberts said a lot of vendors were ok with that as it will likely mean they will avoid potential storms and blizzards in the North Country.

Roberts said that with Red Button Bakery closing that many people may not be aware of other local bakery options

“I think that a lot of people might not know about 3 Bears Gluten Free Bakery,” she said. “People should be excited…between them and Sugar Valley Bakery in Potsdam who create some beautiful products.”

The wineries will have samples and be selling wine by the bottle.

More food vendors have signed up this year including businesses that will sell fudge, sauces, pickles, mustards and more. Reps from the Maple Producers Association will also be in attendance.

Admission is $ 3 each day.

“This is the biggest show of its kind in the area
