POTSDAM -- Verismo, a Montreal-based chamber music ensemble, will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, at the Potsdam United Methodist Church, 26 Main St.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.
Crane School of Music alumna Christine Hoerning, Verismo's clarinetist, says the ensemble will offer an eclectic program of music for clarinet, cello and piano paired with film. The concert includes works by Beethoven and Brahms, and acclaimed film composer Nino Rota. Performers also include Thomas Beard, cello, and Pablo Miro Cortez, piano.
Hoerning says Verismo chose Potsdam as a site to expand its concerts outside the Montreal area in part because of her experiences at Crane. "I was struck by the sense of community in Potsdam," both among students and full-time residents, she says, adding that her four years at Potsdam "were some of the most influential in my career."
"We enjoy traveling and we want to share what we do with new audiences," Hoerning says. "There is a different atmosphere and energy which keeps our performances exciting."
