CANTON – A Mom Prom fundraiser will be held Friday, June 10, 2011 from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Best Western in Canton.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Women Of Grace Widows' Fund, a joint mission project of the Canton and Watertown Presbyterian Churches dedicated to alleviating poverty and providing opportunities for widows in Malawi, Africa.

Tickets for this women-only event cost $15 and will be available through the Blackbird Café at 107 Main St., Canton starting May 9 (cash or check only).

Not just for moms, this event encourages women of all ages to put on retro prom dresses, wedding gowns, long-forgotten bridesmaid frocks or formal gowns, whether found in the back of a closet or at a rummage sale, for an evening of dancing, door prizes and raffles for a good cause.

Theme baskets to be raffled include Chocolate Lovers, Scrap Booker’s Delight, Spa Indulgence, and Food Lovers baskets with tickets at $2 for one and six for $10.

There will be the crowning of the 2011 Mom Prom Queen along with an award for the most outrageous dress. Women are encouraged to bring their high school prom photos to share on a board. There will be a cash bar and music will be provided by DJ Jody Tosti.
