Mohawk International Raceway’s 2012 season opener tonight in Akwesasne

AKWESASNE -- Mohawk International Raceway opens its 2012 racing season tonight with a full program highlighted by a 40 lap, 358 Modified main event with a $2,000 top prize.

A full show of Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Mod Lites and Bandits fills out the bill.

Most of the top drivers from 2011 are back, and several past champions from other tracks will be running all season at MIR in 2012. There will be many new faces in the Sportsman division this year.

The pits and grandstand area will open on Friday night at 5 p.m. General admission on opening night is $15, and pit admission is $20 with DIRTcar license and $23 without.

The first heat race of the evening will be on the track at 7:45 p.m.

Mohawk International Raceway is in Akwesasne, midway between the Seaway International Bridge to Cornwall and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. From Route 37, turn south onto Frogtown Road.

Racing is held on Friday nights at 7:45 PM from May through September, featuring the Frenchie's Chevrolet DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and Pro Stocks, as well as the Bandit division.
