CANTON -- The St. Lawrence Land Trust is celebrating International Migratory Bird Day and Global Bird Day with a bird trip around Upper and Lower Lakes Wildlife Management Area in Canton Saturday, May 13.
The tour, led by Michael Greenwald, is from 7 a.m. to noon.
Some of the birds that breed in the WMA are bald eagles, common loons, osprey, bobolinks, American bitterns, wood ducks, wild turkeys, mallards, ruffed grouse, and American woodcock.
Participants will carpool to various spots around the Upper and Lower Lakes including Indian Creek Nature Center.
Participants will meet at the parking lot on Willow Island, on the south side of the bridge crossing the Grasse River on Main Street, Canton.
In the event of heavy rain the trip will be postponed to Sunday, May 14.
Recommended: binoculars, water, bug spray and sturdy shoes for muddy conditions.
