POTSDAM - The St. Lawrence County Arts Council will hold a meet-the-artist event on Friday, Aug. 3, from 5-7 p.m.
Community members are invited to “come as they are” to meet artist Drina Connors Kay and view an exhibit of her watercolor paintings titled “It Takes 1000 Words.”
Kay of Cape Vincent says that she always tries to include a story in her work.
“When I paint I let the colors and water mix, and I allow myself to flow into the process. I play with textures and the creative experience becomes a delightful journey. As I work things emerge: mood, or theme, or visual statements, or if I am lucky, an entire story,” Kay said.
Starting at 5:30 p.m. during the meet-the-artist event, visitors to the exhibit can choose to participate in a workshop offered by Ms. Kay. Participants can create a temporary object based on a topic, story or idea that will be introduced to the group with showmanship. Materials will be pulled apart and reused for the next topic/design. Everyone works at the same time, but each temporary art object will be presented individually by Ms. Kay, spotlighting the participant when they are ready.
This event is free, open to everyone, and wheelchair accessible.
Art sales benefit the artists and SLC Arts. This exhibit will be on display at the SLC Arts Gallery at the Potsdam Town Hall, 18 Elm St., through Sept. 14.
The Gallery is open during Town Hall business hours, Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
