MASSENA -- The Friends of Robert Moses State Park Nature Center will celebrate spring with a maypole dance Saturday, May 4 at noon.
Historically, people danced around young trees in celebration of winter’s end. Maypoles were common all over England and were kept from one year to the next.
Schools would practice skipping round the pole for weeks before the final show on the village greens.
Meet by the nature center trailhead.
To register contact the center at 705-5022 or ncrebirth@yahoo.com.
