Matthew Stein, author of “When Technology Fails”, appearing on WCKN cable channel 30 March 14 and 15

Aired on WCKN cable channel 30 on March 14 and 15 at 7 p.m., Peak Moment host Janaia Donaldson is joined by Matthew Stein, the author of the highly praised book, “When Technology Fails,” billed as a comprehensive manual on sustainable living skills.

The question they explore is, if an emergency forced you to evacuate your home, would you be prepared? Matt Stein shows what to pack in a 72-hour emergency survival kit, and why. The packing list is on his website (www.whentechfails.com).

Private and federal agencies from the Red Cross to FEMA and Homeland Security urge every one of us to have emergency supplies on hand, in our homes, businesses and vehicles. In today’s world of global warming, super-storms, record breaking floods, severe droughts, antiquated and overloaded electrical distribution systems, it is likely that most of us will see significant disruptions in the flow of electricity and goods at some point in our lives.

On the personal survival level, a little planning, training, education and individual action can significantly reduce one’s sense of helplessness. Preparation goes along way toward keeping you and your family safe – and comfortable - when disaster strikes.

The Peak Moment programs air every week at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday on WCKN, Time Warner Channel 30. Peak Moment explores locally reliant living for challenging times. The programs are underwritten locally by The Center for Excellence in Communication at Clarkson University and the Seymour Family of Potsdam.

Upcoming shows for March include March 21 and 22: Cultivating a Suburban Foodshed, and March 28 and 29: Creating our Own Neighborhood — Bellingham Cohousing.
