MASSENA -- Two fundraising events will kick off Massena Meals on Wheels Week starting Sept. 28.
A spaghetti dinner will be served Friday, Sept. 28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Meals on Wheels office, 70 E. Hatfield St. Food will be provided by Vino Vidi Vici. The cost is $8 per person or $30 for a family of 4 or more.
Take-outs are also available by calling 315-769-5083.
The annual Meals on Wheels Radio Telethon will be the following Friday, Oct. 5, also at the Meals on Wheels office, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The telethon will be broadcast on WMSA Radio 1340 AM.
The radio telethon is a bid on items donated by the community members. Donations are also received in person or on the phone lines throughout the telethon. Organizations and individuals are invited to chat on the radio while making a donation, if they wish.
Large boards are set up at the office, posting name of items and current bids. At times, quite the bidding war has taken place on popular items, such as fuel oil, pellets, diamonds, airline tickets, and hotel reservations. Everyone is invited to stop by to participate.
“Stock the Pot” will take place on East Hatfield Street in front of the MOW building all day during the telethon. Traffic will stop to accept donations from drivers as they pass by.
The Massena MOW is a private not-for-profit agency whose mission is to provide nutritious meals to the elderly, home bound, sick, and handicapped people in the greater Massena area. It helps individuals maintain their independence by providing home-delivered meals, 5 days a week, delivered by caring volunteers who make personal contact with each client daily. One-hundred percent of donations go to the local Massena MOW.
