MASSENA -- Meals on Wheels is seeking to raise $18,000 so it can feed the hungry for another year and will solicit donations on Oct. 3 as part of its "Keep the Wheels Rolling" radio and telethon fundraising campaign.
It will be broadcast live on WMSA 1340 AM, Time Warner Cable channel 30 and online through Slic.
Those who wish to give have a couple of options.
They can donate items to be auctioned. The item, along with the donors name will be read over the air, seen on TV and listed on web and newspaper pages. Sandy Cook and Shawn Gray will emcee the event.
They will also be selling "wheels," which get posted and credit the donor.
Those who want to send money can get a donation form by writing Meals on Wheels at 70 E. Hatfield St., Massena, NY 13662 or calling 769 5083 or 0376.
Keep the Wheels Rolling campaign chair Mark Bogdan says there is a "substantial shortfall" in the Meals on Wheels budget.
"Without an annual major fundraiser, it will only be a matter of time before we'll have to close our doors to the community," Bogdan wrote in a letter advertising the event.
He says the number of Massena residents getting food from Meals on Wheels has gone up. He says they serve 200 more meals per month than a year ago and delivered upwards of 2,000 meals in July.
