MASSENA -- Village residents will get a chance to give input on Mayor Tim Currier’s community development plan.

Currier says stakeholder meetings are planned for June 8, 15 and 22 at 6 p.m. each night in the J.W. Leary Junior High cafeteria.

"The goal is to get community involvement. Citizens have an opportunity to build this community’s future by identifying the path forward and the approach we take. It’s an opportunity not just to be heard, but to help shape Massena’s future," Currier said. "Additionally, no one person or group has all the answers. The more people we involve in the process; the greater chance we have to establish a strong plan."

Each night will feature different discussion topics.

On June 8, they will talk a bout natural resources and outdoor recreation, sports, healthy living, community sustainability and clean energy.

The June 15 gathering will include discussions on the downtown, arts and culture, destination marketing, community re-branding, community broadband and wi-fi hotspots.

June 22 topics will include agriculture, marketing and regional partnerships.

He says the group’s input will be included in a final strategy document that should be prepared by the end of summer, presented to the public in September and implemented in October, Currier said.

“Overall, this is about community development,” Currier said. “Improving the things in Massena that help attract visitors, attract people to move here, and encourage employers to move here. Community development is a vital part of economic development.”
