MASSENA -- The Massena Artists Association's 29th annual Juried Art Exhibit will open with a reception on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 6:30 pm at the Massena Library, 41 Glenn St.

The awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m. and refreshments will be served.

This exhibit features dozens of local and regional artists who submit their best new work for the consideration of the judges.

Ed LaVarnway and Karan Cross of Ogdensburg have been selected to serve as judges for the Massena Artists Association’s 29th Annual Juried Art Exhibit.

Ed LaVarnway is a Massena native and a graduate of MCHS. After working in the Albany area for 24 years, he returned to the North Country in 2005 when he was appointed executive director of the Frederic Remington Art Museum. Among his achievements there was the restoration of the museum’s 200 year old Parish Mansion before retiring in the spring of 2013.

North Country native Karan Cross spent her formative years in gold rush country, California. Her professional career spans such diverse fields as crafting custom-design furniture, working with emotionally disabled youth, and telecommunications network design.

In addition to showcasing new work by familiar artists, this exhibit also allows Massena residents to discover new, previously unknown artists.

Awards will be given for the best entries in several categories, including oil and acrylic painting, drawing, pastel, watercolor, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.

One work will be selected to receive the “Best of Show” award.

The exhibit will remain on display through February 28.
