GOUVERNEUR -- The Masons St. Lawrence County will hold a free Safety ID Event in the 4-H Youth Building at the Gouverneur & St. Lawrence County Fair, Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Masonic Safety ID Program is offered free to all families coming to the fair. Participants will receive a packet containing items to assist law enforcement in the safe recovery of a lost or missing child, student, or adult. All ages are welcome (0 to 100+).

Masons from both Masonic districts in the county will be working together at this event, hoping to give families the peace of mind that all pertinent information will be in one place to hand over to authorities should someone go missing. The CD-ROM can be uploaded immediately to the Amber Alert System, and the program is approved by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice.

“This is one of the many projects that Masonic Lodges all over the State conduct to help our communities,” says Stephen Tharaldsen, Chairman of the First St. Lawrence Masonic District. “We are very committed to this program, and it is supported and administered entirely by the New York State Masons through fundraising and volunteering. The program has been so successful that now thirty states and the Province of Ontario of Canada has initiated our program. Recently Australia has voiced an interest in the program."

A short questionnaire is completed and a permission slip will be signed (for minors); digital fingerprints and photos are taken. After a few minutes, the kit is completed, which includes a CD-ROM with the fingerprints and photos, a laminated ID card, and a printout of all the vital information.

All information is given to the family; only permission slips are retained.

The New York Masonic Safety Identification Program addresses the alarming fact that many children, students, and adults are reported missing in the United States each year. They urge all families to keep this important, updateable information in a safe place, and take it with you when traveling. This information can aid in the safe recovery of a lost or missing person.

If you had a previous ID through this program, your CD can be updated at the fair or any other Masonic Safety ID event. For a faster experience through our great program.
