COLTON -- The third of five performances in the Town of Colton’s Summer Music Series of Colton Riverside Performances which takes place on Wednesday, Aug. 1 features Mary Ann Casale and Kevin Irwin.

The performance from 6-8 p.m. will be held at the gazebo behind the museum on Main Street in the hamlet of Colton. The rain location is nearby in the Colton-Pierrepont Central School Cafeteria.

Mary Ann Casale, born on Long Island, started playing music at a young age with strong jazz and blues influences learned from her uncle.

After performing on her own and as a vocalist in small bands during the mid-1970s then taking a hiatus from performing for a number of years she now resides in Hannawa Falls where she writes music and performs once again.

In recent years she has performed in venues throughout the Adirondacks and the eastern US including Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee. She has received local public radio as well as national and international air time with the releases of her albums Running Out of Time in 2014 and Restless Heart in 2016 which was nominated for a SAMMY (Syracuse Area Music Award) for best Americana Album.

Kevin Irwin has sung and played music on various instruments from the age of ten, turning professional at 14. After many years of experiential and formal education in rock, country, jazz, pop, concert bands, choral groups, and pit orchestras he graduated from the Crane School of Music.

Together Mary Ann and Kevin will be performing a mix of blues and Americana classics from the 60s and 70s plus some originals.

Their friend and bass player Sean Cunningham will join them for some songs. When Kevin and Sean perform together they known in the area as “Citizen Jack.”

Audience participants should bring chairs or blankets for seating outside. Volunteers will be on hand to help people who need assistance. Grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, drinks, and other goodies will be available to purchase before and during the performance from the Colt’s Pride Booster Club at very reasonable prices.

Bathroom facilities inside the Museum will be open during the performance.

There is no admission fee to attend the performance since the music series is made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

Five businesses -- Canterbury Builders LLC, Catamount Lodge & Forest LLC, Gray & Gray and Associates, Raquette River Pub, S&L Electric -- are sponsoring the performances this year.

In addition expenses are being covered through product sales and the raffle of painted barn quilts.

On Aug. 1, a two-by-two foot painted barn quilt, valued at $125, featuring a pieced owl quilt pattern will be raffled.

The winning ticket will be announced at the end of the performance; and the winner does not have to be present to win.

Until the performance the barn quilt is displayed in the Colton Hepburn Library where tickets -- 2 for $5 -- can be purchased; however only 100 tickets are available.

More information about the performances is available on the town website www.townofcolton.com or by calling 315-244-9956.
