POTSDAM -- Clarkson University alumnus Martin Roesch, the founder and chief technology officer of Sourcefire, will deliver the keynote address of Clarkson's Global Entrepreneurship Week celebration Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in Clarkson's Student Center.
The event, part of the Reh Family Speaker Series on Entrepreneurship Research and Practice, is free.
Following Roesch's presentation, he will be inducted into the Clarkson University Alumni Entrepreneur Hall of Fame in recognition of a lifetime of entrepreneurial achievement that encompasses the ideals of entrepreneurial activity -- education, application, and giving back.
Roesch, the author of open source Snort, the world’s most widely deployed intrusion detection and prevention technology, graduated from Clarkson in 1992 with a degree in electrical & computer engineering and in 2001 founded Sourcefire, now a division of Cisco, which acquired it for $2.7 billion in 2013. Snort forms the foundation for the Sourcefire Next-Generation intrusion prevention system.
Intrusion prevention systems (IPS) are network security appliances that monitor network and/or system activities for malicious activity.
