CANTON – The St. Lawrence Maple Producers Association will celebrate the start of the sugaring season Saturday, March 12, and participate in Maple Weekends March 19 and 20 and April 2 and 3.

The annual tree tapping ceremony and maple open house takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm, 2043B State Highway 68. A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m.

The sugarhouse will be open for tours, stories and questions. Many maple producers will be on hand to exhibit their wares including cotton candy, sugar candy and maple cream.

This event will be followed by two Maple Weekends in St. Lawrence County.

St. Lawrence County Maple Producers members from Hermon to Waddington are participating in the annual Maple Weekends, this year on March 19 and 20 and April 2 and 3.

Maple producers will invite visitors to take tours of their sugarbushes and sugarhouses, taste samples of syrup and maple sugar candy, and take horse-drawn buggy rides.

Many are also holding pancake breakfasts those days.
