Magic show, parade, fireworks, baby contest, fishing derby, races planned at Labor Day celebration in Heuvelton

HEUVELTON -- The Heuvelton Labor Day Festivities Committee will host their 2015 Labor Day weekend Sept. 5 and 6, with a fishing derby, races, a baby contest, parade, car show, fireworks and more.

It will feature the theme “Heuvelton Bulldog Purple Pride.”

Sept. 5 starts with a walk and run. Registration is at 7:15 a.m. at Sun Opta, across from the former McAdams parking lot. Walkers start at 8 a.m. Runners go at 8:15 a.m.

Next on tap is a free kids’ fishing derby. Registration is at the boat launch at 7:30 a.m. Fishing goes from 8 a.m. to noon.

A canoe race will go from Rensselaer Falls to Heuvelton. Registration is at 9 a.m. Start times are 10 and 10:15 a.m.

Prices are $15 for St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers members, $20 for non-members and $5 for youth.

Pickens Hall, 83 State St., will host a quilt show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 6.

A baby contest will be at St. Raphael’s Parish Center, Justina Street, at 10 a.m.

A duck race is slated for noon at the flat rocks on River Road.

The Heuvelton Central alumni reunion starts with tours of the school at 1:30 p.m. There will be a slideshow in the auditorium from 1:30 to 3 p.m. That will be followed by an award ceremony in the Poulton Auditorium, with a social hour afterward. The reunion will close with an alumni dinner in the cafeteria at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $15. Reservations are required.

Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department will host lawnmower races at Septic Speedway, Lisbon Street, at 5 p.m.

Amvets Post 1997, 107 State St. will host a dance with music by Pure Country from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Sept. 6 events will be at the boat launch.

A craft show will go from 9 a.m. to dark.

There will be face-painting on Main Street at noon and at the boat launch following the parade.

The parade starts on Main Street at 1 p.m. Lineup is at noon with judging at 12:30 p.m.

There will be food vendors afterward.

DJ Stan Mitchell will provide music and karaoke after the parade until dark.

People can visit with former HCS faculty from 2 to 3 p.m.

There will be Purple Cow ice cream floats served from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Amvets will serve a chicken BBQ at their post at 2 p.m.

At the boat launch, there will be a boucne house, games, and a Fragile Planet animal display at 2 p.m.

A magic show is slated for 3 p.m.

Those entering the antique and classic car show will line up at 3 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. show.

There will be an ice cream eating contest and old fashioned games at 4 p.m.

The Amvets Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a 5 p.m. cake walk.

The weekend closes with fireworks at dusk.
