Madrid Dam Summer Music Series to continue with concert Wednesday

MADRID – The Madrid Dam Summer Music Series continues with the music of Big Papa and Escape Key Band on July 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Looking ahead, Don Woodcock and friends will hit the stage from 6 to 8 p.m. for an evening of fiddling and more.

Big Papa & Margarita Mike will have a guest drummer Austin Curcuruto join their Beaches and Boomers Tour.

Austin, a Gouverneur native has been the touring drummer with Craig Campbell, and For the past 3 years, Austin has been the touring drummer for Bo Bice, American Idol Season 4’s runner up to Carrie Underwood.

With Bo Bice, Austin has toured the country with classic and southern rock icons Styx, REO Speedwagon, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Curcuruto was named runner up for Up and Coming Drummer of 2010 by Modern Drummer readers.

During the July 20 concert, there will be a “Madrid Moment” of belly dancing during intermission.

There will be a box for donations to the Potsdam Humane Shelter.

Warren “Big Papa” Harman started playing acoustic guitar at age 11 and went on to learn bass, drums, keyboards and ukulele.

His first experience with parrot head culture was when his college professor insisted he listen to some bootlegged Buffett while working as a teaching assistant. Up until that time his main musical influences were the Eagles, Bob Seger and George Thorogood, according to his website.

He started Harmony Entertainment Mobile DJ Service in 1993 and went on to perform for hundreds of formal events.

On July 27, the talents, personalities, and friends made over the 25 years that Madrid hosted the Bluegrass Festival will be honored. Family members of the founder Bud Rupert will be in attendance.

The featured performer is Don Woodcock and Musical Friends.

Don is a master fiddler and three-time New York State Champion. He is in the Fiddlers Hall of Fame and locally, he was honored by TAUNY.

His musical friends carry many years experience and will bring those given talents to share with us, event organizers said..

Attendees are welcome to bring along fiddles, violins, banjos and more as there will be time for some impromptu jamming after Don's performance.

Admission is free to all concerts and there will be a food concession stand in the park as a benefit for Madrid-Waddington High School seniors of 2017.

Local Madrid businesses will have special meal and food offers.
