EDWARDS -- Local fiddle virtuosos Gretchen Koehler and Don Woodcock will lead a fiddle workshop and perform at the Edwards Opera House, 161 Main St., at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Koehler has been heard on NPR's "Thistle and Shamrock" as well as CBC Radio in Canada. She was inducted into the New York State Fiddlers' Hall of Fame in 2012 and was also honored with a Heritage Award from Traditional Arts in Upstate New York in 2014. Koehler has also taught hundreds of students to play the fiddle and operates a studio in Potsdam.

Similar to Koehler, Woodcock was inducted into the NYS Fiddlers' Hall of Fame in 1987 and honored with the TAUNY Heritage Award in 1997. Woodcock holds the title of Grand Champion Fiddler of New York State after winning the state fiddling championship three times.

Together they play the old time jigs, reels, waltzes and polkas enjoyed by generations of North Country residents.

In addition to their own recordings, Koehler and Woodcock recorded an album of old time fiddle tunes in three part harmony called "The Fiddlers’ Three" with Koehler's sister Rebecca.

Tickets will be available at the door before the show beginning at 6 p.m. The Edwards Opera House is located on the second floor of the Edwards Town Hall.

Advance tickets for all shows are available through mail. Those interested can send a check payable to “The Edwards Arts Council, Inc.” to P.O. Box 241, Edwards, NY 13635. The tickets will be available at the box office the night of the show.

The Edwards Arts Council was formed in 2002 with the mission of preserving the Edwards Town Hall, which was erected in 1896 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
