CANTON -- Local author Peggy Mooers, penname as Marguerite Mooers, will sign copies of her most recent novel "The Shelter of Darkness" Saturday Sept. 5, from 1 until 3 p.m. in the Brewer Bookstore at St. Lawrence University.

Called "A gripping read" in an Amazon five star review, the story's main character is John Winthrop, a man with leprosy, who has fled to Northern New York with his stepdaughter Jenny.

The year is l945, just after the end of World War II and into John and Jenny's life comes a young woman, Annie Conroy who is pregnant and running from her abusive husband. John decides to give Annie shelter, but that act will plunge him into a situation, where his secret could be revealed, and his life and that of his stepdaughter will be in jeopardy.

"A damn fine writer." Aileen Vincent-Barwood, author "A Murderous Thirst."

Marguerite is also the author of "Take My Hand" a murder mystery featuring detective Chris Bellini, trying to solve the cold case of a murdered child.

Before retiring, Marguerite Mooers taught inmates in a medium security prison in upstate New York. She is the author of numerous short stories and award-winning poetry. An enthusiastic watercolorist and watercolor teacher, she and her husband divide their time between upstate New York and coastal Texas. "The Shelter of Darkness" is her second novel.
