Living With Alzheimer’s, a three-part series designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, will be presented in Massena and Ogdensburg in October.
In the middle stage of Alzheimer’s disease, families face new challenges with the disease beyond memory loss. Behavior and communication problems may be present and safety of the person with Alzheimer’s may be a concern. In the Living With Alzheimer’s series, people can hear from those directly affected and learn what they can do to cope with these changes.
The presentations are at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 9 and 16 at Highland Nursing Home, 182 Highland Rd., Massena; and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 9 and 16, at United Helpers Nursing Home, State Hwy. 68, Ogdensburg.
Topics include symptoms of the middle stage, communication issues, and providing personal care; behavioral changes, medication management and safety concerns including home safety, driving and wandering; and care options, including day programs, in-home care and other living options as well as caregiver needs. It is strongly recommended that caregivers attend all three sessions.
Programs are free to attend, but registration is required by calling the Alzheimer’s Association at 621-4025.
