Re-enactors from last year’s event

MASSENA -- “Yanks” and “Johnny Rebs” will be at it again at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s Civil War reenactment weekend at Robert Moses State Park. The sights and sounds of the Civil War will fill the air at the 14th event, slated for Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26.

Union and Confederate reenactors will stage mock battles, perform military drills, talk about camp life, and demonstrate cooking, spinning, ladies’ aid, cannon firing, and medical practices.

New activities for this year include a game of rounders (19th century baseball) and Civil War Jeopardy.

There will also be a fashion show of Civil War-era clothing, a basket auction, historical displays, a quilt raffle, and period music.

Military and civilian reenactors from New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Ontario and Quebec, Canada are expected to attend, including “President Lincoln,” as well as sutlers, vendors of period goods and clothing.

The St. Lawrence County Historical Association presents the weekend, which is hosted by the 2nd Michigan, Co. E Reenactment Unit.

Admission is $4 per person per day, free for children 6 and under, maximum charge of $15 per vehicle.

The camps are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Mock battles will be at 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Closing ceremonies will follow the Sunday battle.

The Marine Corps League, St. Lawrence County Detachment #408 will provide food concession both days.
