POTSDAM -- The Community Performance Series will "Little Shop of Horrors" from Tuesday, Aug. 6 through Saturday, Aug. 10 in Snell Music Theater, SUNY Potsdam.
The show will run nightly at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday.
The Off-Broadway run began in 1982, and quickly moved to London's West End.
It was scripted as a musical movie and released in 1986, and eventually made it to Broadway in 2003.
"Little Shop of Horrors" surrounds a nerdy florist working in urban Skid Row in the 1960s.
Seymour, an orphan, finds himself doing daily menial tasks to appease his boss, Mr. Mushnik.
One day, Seymour discovers a plant in the shop that he cannot identify. He names it Audrey II, after his co-worker with whom he is infatuated.
Seymour soon discovers that the plant has a unique appetite that is not easily satiated. Although he feeds the plant all he can muster, Audrey II continues to grow and will not stop feeding until it is good and full.
The show will be directed by Donna Drake, who has starred on Broadway. She has received Emmy nominations for "Dear Alex" and "Annie," four Drama Desk Award nominations, a Mac Award nomination and a Theatre World Award.
Music director Sara Simon-Shult and sound designer Jim Wildman, both from Canton, will return. SUNY Potsdam’s Alexis Foster will serve as the costume designer. Annmarie Duggan will return as lighting designer. Sets will be designed by Kenneth Goldstein
"Little Shop of Horrors" will include local residents:
• David Bish of Massena as Mushnik.
• Cecilia Snow of Potsdam as an urchin.
• Collin Jacobs of Hogansburg as a puppeteer.
