CANTON -- Canton Central School Thespians will present the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” on Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hugh C. Williams High School Auditorium.
Tickets will be available in the high school main office before the show or may be purchased at the door. The cost is $10 for adults, and $7 for students and senior citizens.
This show is rated PG-13 and may not be appropriate for young children.
The story takes place in Mushnik’s flower shop on Skid Row and tells the story of a plant enthusiast named Seymour Krelborn (Connor Falen) who unwittingly nurtures an unknown species of plant into a giant man-eating monstrosity he names “Audrey 2.”
As the plant grows, so does a budding relationship between Seymour and his co-worker Audrey (Emma Crowell) who is unfortunately in an abusive relationship with Orin Scrivello (Ricky Lashock).
Mushnik (Sunshine Cushman) is thrilled by the sudden increase in business caused by the attraction of the “strange and unusual plant” in her store.
From beginning to ferocious end, all of the events are witnessed and commented on by a Greek chorus of Doo-Wop girls (Sierra Ashlaw, Elizabeth Davis, Grace Franklin, Abby Kerrigan, Brianna Larrabee, Izzy Newman, and Riley O’Shea).
This musical is an incredibly clever and entertaining combination of science-fiction and horror meets the innocence of the 1950’s American pop culture.
