GOUVERNEUR -- Literacy of Northern New York is looking for volunteers to help adults who struggle with literacy skills.
There will be a training course for volunteers from 5:15 to 8 p.m. on April 29, May 1, May 6 and May 8 at the Gouverneur Library, 60 Church St.
Pre-registration is required, call 265-0194. There is a $25 textbook fee.
Volunteers will learn to tutor in phonics, word patterns, vocabulary development, reading comprehension and fluency. They are matched with an adult who needs help after finishing the course. Tutors and students meet in public places for an hour or two per week.
