GOUVERNEUR -- Literacy of Northern New York is training volunteers to work with adults who need help with basic reading skills.
The training will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the basement of the Gouverneur Library, 60 Church St., Nov. 13, Nov. 18 and Nov 20. Volunteers must attend all three sessions.
There is a $25 fee for the textbook. Volunteers will learn and practice techniques to help a student with reading comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency and sounding out unfamiliar words.
After completing the course, each volunteer will be assigned one adult student who needs help with reading skills. Tutors and students meet in public places, such as libraries.
Registration is required by calling 782-4270.
