CANTON -- "Start Your Garden Seedlings Indoors & Learn How to Transplant: A Hands-on, How-to Workshop" will be held Sunday, April 19.

This session is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with an optional farm tour to follow. A second session may be added if there's overflow. The workshop is designed for beginner gardeners.

Local Living Venture is offering an opportunity to learn the basics of planting seeds and more from one of the most experienced organic gardeners in the North Country. The workshop will be led by Birdsfoot Organic Farm coordinator and experienced market gardener Dulli Tengeler.

Learn what containers to use for what plants, how to make homemade potting soil from compost, how to fill containers and seed different crops (including some flowers). They will also transplant some vegetables and herbs as well as learn about timing the seeding, planting seedlings out, and different varieties.

Participants will be able to take home several organic seedlings of their own from the workshop. The sponsor for the event is the Potsdam Agway Garden Center; providing organic potting soil, pots, seeds and more in a friendly atmosphere.

Contact 347-4223 or LocalLivingVenture@gmail.com with a phone number and email address to register.

The cost is $22, $40 couple/family of two, and $10 for students to benefit Local Living Venture workshop creation. Scholarships are available when registering.
