CANTON -- North Country beef producers have an opportunity to study bull selection by the numbers with Mike Baker, Cornell University, at the Extension Learning Farm on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
Baker will talk about how to make selections from the bull stud catalog.
Beef farms using artificial insemination are able to select bulls that meet their farms’ breeding, production and profit objectives and make fast genetic progress. The catalogs can be confusing to read and understand, with lots of numbers, said an Extension press release.
Baker will provide some hands-on case studies to help farmers get a handle on how to choose the sires they need.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County is organizing the meeting and farm visits with Dr. Baker.
Select Sire Power is providing pizza and beverages and allowing us to offer the class for free.
Pre-registration is appreciated.
