Learn about credit card fees, security and liability regulations at St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce webinar

“Demystifying Credit Card Processing” is the name of a webinar sponsored by the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce scheduled for noon to 1 pm Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The presenter is Barbara Denis, territory manager with TransFirst LLC, which partners with local banking institutions and provides a merchant program and support for bank customers.

The presentation will cover processing terms, fees, security and new liability regulations.

“This webinar is extremely timely, as MasterCard and Visa have set Oct. 1 as the deadline for their merchants to be using chip-enabled card processors,” said Chamber Executive Director Brooke Rouse. “American Express has a deadline of Oct. 16. We want our businesses to be aware of the new EMV technology and new regulations that impact how liability for fraud may be put on the merchants and banks, without this enhanced security measure,” she said.

The webinar, which is available online through a link that will be provided at preregistration, will cover questions such as how processing fees are determined, what is PCI compliance and why do you need to comply, what is EMV and how is it going to impact your way of doing business, and contactless payment through solutions like Apple Pay and Google Wallet. The webinar format allows for interaction with the speaker, including a question box throughout for further information.

Chamber webinars are planned for the lunchtime hour the first Wednesday of every month. Members can register by going to the new Member Center on NorthCountryGuide.com, and can have access to recorded webinars if they were unable to login at the time of the event.

Laura Perry and Clarkson University are hosting the webinar on their platform for the pilot year.
