LAWRENCE -- Lawrence Historical Organization will honor local servicemen and women and commemorate the War of 1812 Sunday, June 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lawrence Museum, 114405 US HWY 11.
The event will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and honor members of the armed services from this area. There will be displays, refreshments and a Power Point presentation at 3 p.m. given by Bryan Thomson, Town of DeKalb Historian. Mr. Thompson suggests that the War of 1812 is the forgotten war. It happened right in our own back yards in the North Country, yet most of us know little about it. Following the life and career of 29-year-old Lt. Col. Thomas B. Benedict, the accidental commander of the St. Lawrence County Militia, Bryan Thompson's talk will illuminate some of the local events and characters of the War of 1812.
Bring pictures and information to share about family members who served, or are presently serving.
