Laurentian Chapter for ADK plans spring hikes, Dean Road trek along Grasse River steps off April 2

The Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) has numerous spring outings planned. The following trips are slated:

• Sunday, Apr 2: Road walk on the Dean Road. With ADK Laurentian Chapter. Follows the unpaved Dean Road along the Middle Branch of the Grasse River. 6 miles. Moderate. Contact Tom Ortmeyer, 315-244-3707, or tortmeye@gmail.com.

• Sunday, Apr 10: Spring Waterfall Walk on Tooley Pond Road. With ADK Laurentian Chapter. People of all ages, as well as dogs on leash are welcome. 4 miles in total, split among several short hikes to waterfalls on the South Branch of the Grasse River. Easy. • Sunday, Apr. 23: ADK Laurentian Chapter Spring Potluck. Community Room, First Presbyterian Church, Potsdam. Arrive between 5 and 5:30 PM, supper at 5:45 PM. Bring a dish to share and your own tableware. Supper will be followed by a presentation on “Hiking in the Canadian Rockies” by Art Boni. Contact Tom Wheeler at 315-386-2482 or northflow@gmail.com.

• Saturday, Apr. 29: Annual Everton Falls Clean-Up. On the Red Tavern Road outside St. Regis Falls. Club will pick up roadside trash, clear the two hiking trails, and possibly canoe. • Sunday, Apr 30: ADK Laurentian Chapter Spring Trail Work on Red Sandstone Trail. Walk the trails and do light maintenance including branch trimming and removing blowdown. Contact Blair Madore at 315-261-0751, or madorebf@potsdam.edu.

• Saturday, May 6: Hiking in the Gulf Unique Area. With Laurentan Chapter, ADK. The Gulf is a scenic chasm located on the Canadian border in the town of Mooers, 40 minutes east of Malone. 5 miles RT, almost flat. Easy. Contact John Barron at 613-828-2296 or johnbarron@sympatico.ca.

• Saturday, May 13: Bear Mountain Wildflower Hike. With Laurentian Chapter, ADK. Loop hike beginning in the Cranberry Lake campground. Great lake views. Approximately 5.5 miles RT. Elevation gain 677 feet. Moderate. Contact Marianne Hebert at 315-265-0756 or hebertm@potsdam.edu.

• Saturday, May 27: Hike Titusville Mountain. With Laurentian Chapter, ADK. Steep and partly off-trail, to spectacular viewpoints. 3.5 miles RT, 1000 feet of gain. Strenuous. Contact John Barron at 613-828-2296 or johnbarron@sympatico.ca.

• Saturday, Jun 10: ADK Laurentian Chapter Dog and Family Hike at Wellesley Island State Park. We will explore the trails and visit the Nature Center. Bring lunch and binoculars. 3-6 miles RT. • Sunday, Jun 25: Bicycle the Madrid-Waddington loop. With Laurentian Chapter, ADK. 25 miles scenic road loop going down to the St. Lawrence through Chipman Corners, stops at several parks on the river, and then back to Madrid along the Grasse.
