POTSDAM -- The Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club is hosting ADK’s Spring Outing 2013 in Potsdam.

The outing includes a range of full-day outdoor trips on Saturday June 15, with shorter offerings on Friday and Sunday.

The outing features a barbecue dinner and folk singer Jamie Savage as well as a planetarium show by Jeff Miller on Friday evening. It also includes a banquet and an Adirondack folk music concert by Dan Berggren, Peggy Lynn and Dan Duggan on Saturday evening.

Hikes will take participants to St. Regis, Azure, and Loon Lake Mountains; through boreal landscapes, sometimes off-trail; and to several waterfalls.

The chapter will showcase the two trails it maintains including Stone Valley and the Red Sandstone. Recently constructed trails in Downerville State Forest and a tour of the results of a reforestation project on the mine tailings at Newton Falls will also be shown.

Paddling trips will make their way across the Saranac Lakes using locks instead of portages, and will visit a couple of wild areas between Meacham Lake and Paul Smiths. Road cycling will include strenuous, hilly routes in the Adirondack foothills along the Raquette River as well as an easy tour through the Amish country near Heuvelton. Mountain bikers can try out the challenging newly-developed trails in Downerville State Forest, leading to scenic Harper Falls.

Children and their parents are invited to a pirate treasure hunt, and also to a short hike at Owls Head led by Rose Rivezzi and David Trithart, authors of “Kids on the Trail: Hiking with Children in the Adirondacks”. The latter will include an optional visit to the Almanzo Wilder Farm Museum, the childhood home of the husband of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of a series of books including “Little House on the Prairie.”

Tickets are $10 per person and are available at Northern Music or at the door.
