POTSDAM – Jan. 17 is the last day to register a team for the North Country Jr. Iron Chef Competition.
Any group, whether it be from a school, club, faith-based organization, or group of friends, can participate in this event. Those interested in registering a team can do so right on the event website at http://ncjrironchef.org/. There are currently 17 teams signed up to participate.
This competition is a regional event that spans Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties. The event will take place Saturday, March 8, at A.A. Kingston Middle School in Potsdam. Teams of middle and high school-aged students will compete to develop healthy recipes, using a combination of local and USDA (Commodity) Foods that could be realistically prepared in a school cafeteria.
North Country Jr. Iron Chef Coordinator, Sarah Bentley-Garfinkel states, “We are thrilled to again highlight the creativity of area students as they develop healthy recipes, as well as feature our region's bounty of nutritious, delicious foods. It’s especially exciting that many teams share the enthusiasm in their home schools and organizations, by learning more about school meal programs and helping to offer these recipes as cafeteria taste tests or menu items”.
Visit the event website at http://ncjrironchef.org/ for more information or to register a team. You can also contact Bentley-Garfinkel with any questions at 261-4760 ext. 226 or sarah@gethealthyslc.org.
If you are a business or organization located in the North Country region and you would like to show your support by becoming a sponsor of the event, please contact Bentley-Garfinkel at the number and email above.
