POTSDAM -- Los Angeles Philharmonic member Christopher Still will perform on the trumpet with the Orchestra of Northern New York 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14 in Hosmer Concert Hall.

Still will perform Aaron Copland's "Quiet City," written for solo trumpet, string orchestra and English horn, alongside the orchestra. Copland wrote "Quiet City" in 1940 after being inspired by Irwin Shaw's play of the same name.

The performance will also include Rumanian Folk Dances by Bartók, Cello Concerto in C Major by Haydn and Serenade Op 22 by Dvořák. Soloists will include Anna Hendrickson on English Horn and Jameson Platte on cello.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for senior citizens and $10 for students. For more information, visit www.onny.org. Tickets are available at the Community Performance Series Box Office at 267-2277 or www.cpspotsdam.

Still joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2007. Before that, he was principal trumpet of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, associate principal trumpet for the Dallas Symphony and principal trumpet for the Charleston Symphony. He has served as assistant principal trumpet for the Grant Park Festival Orchestra in Chicago.

Still originally intended to become a band director and earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Crane in 1993. Switching to performance, he received his master's degree in music performance from the New England Conservatory in Boston.

Still’s performance is the culmination of a return to his alma mater April 11 to 14 as a musician-in-residence in honor of the 125th anniversary of the Crane School of Music. Throughout the residency, he will work with Crane students through masterclasses and small group performances in informal settings.
