MASSENA – The Massena Public Library will present The Kyle Carey Trio performing “Gaelic Americana” April 28 at 2 p.m.

Admission is free.

The ingredients of Carey’s music include the songs of the American Folk Anthology, the Appalachian poetry of Louise McNeill, and weekends spent working at Caffe Lena (in Saratoga Springs, NY) and listening to the best musicians in contemporary folk.

He will be joined by Andrew Finn Magill and Seán Earnest creating, one of the most exciting new trios in American Celtic Music. Combining crystalline vocals, fiery fiddling, and subtle guitar accompaniment, their music draws on both Celtic and Appalachian Folk Influences.

Carey’s debut album, Monongah, produced by former Lunasa guitarist Donogh Hennessy, rose to number eight this past summer on the Folk DJ charts, landing on a number of “Best of 2011” lists by year’s end. Her original songs draw heavily from the American folk tradition, while her fluency in Scottish Gaelic makes for her own brand of ‘Gaelic Americana’.

A North Carolinian by birth, Magill’s debut release “Drive and Lift” features John Doyle, John Skelton, and grammy nominee Al Petteway. The album received rave reviews from both Dirty Linen and Sing Out magazines, and has beeen featured multiple times on NPR’s ‘Thistle and Shamrock’.

Guitarist Earnest is a veteran session player on the New York Irish scene. His eclectic accompaniment style has taken him to Ireland, Canada, and all over the U.S. on tour with several of the genre’s leading bands, including Téada, McPeake, and the Paul McKenna Band.

Together they will perform both original and traditional songs, and lively fiddle tunes: a unique blend of Ireland, Cape Breton, Scotland and Appalachia.
