POTSDAM -- GardenShare, the Local Living Venture, and Cinema 10 have partnered to bring “Fed Up” to the Roxy Theater, 20 Main St., Sept. 22 at 7:15 p.m.
The documentary by Katie Couric explores why, despite media attention and government policies to combat childhood obesity, generations of kids will now live shorter lives than their parents.
Tickets are $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and students.
Following a group of children for more than two years, director Stephanie Soechtig achieves a profound intimacy with them as they document their uphill battles to follow the conventional wisdom, “diet and exercise”, in order to live healthier, fuller lives. They are undertaking a mission impossible. In riveting interviews with the country's leading experts, Fed Up lays bare a decades- long misinformation campaign orchestrated by Big Food and aided and abetted by the U.S. Government.
The screening will be followed with a panel discussion including community members who work closely with these issues on a daily basis.
Panelists include Dr. Nick Knowles, family physician with Canton Potsdam Hospital since 2010. Linda Caamaño works for the Health Initiative and is the Coordinator for the Diabetes Prevention Program and the Diabetes Self Management Program. Paula M. Youmell, of Hands On Health Holistic Healing, has knowledge in many areas including natural health, herbs, reiki, yoga and holistic coaching. Daisy Cox is the director of the Potsdam Neighborhood Center, and works directly with the food insecure families in our community.
