Junior Carp Tournament to launch on St. Lawrence River from O'burg to Massena

The 17th annual St. Lawrence International Junior Carp Tournament is set for July 18 to 20 with young anglers competing for cash and prizes by fishing a 30-mile stretch of the St. Lawrence River from Ogdensburg to Massena.

The 2019 Junior Carp Tournament takes place a month earlier than in previous years due to the Bassmaster Elite returning in August.

It is open to boys and girls ages 11 to 18. Registration is $125 per angler. Contestants register to fish individually or as part of a two- to four-person team. Parents or guardians may sign up to fish, too. All carp caught during the catch-and-release tournament are returned live to the St. Lawrence River.

Registration covers participation in all tournament-related events during the three days, including a pre-tournament fishing school sponsored by Mort Backus & Sons and a closing awards ceremony pizza party and presentations.

Austin Delosh of Madrid, a 19-year-old 2017 graduate of Madrid-Waddington Central School, will be the Grand Marshal of the tournament. He participated in the tournament each year from the age of 11, ‘aging out’ after the 2018 event. He placed 2nd in his age division twice, and has also received multiple team awards throughout the years as part of the 4-person team, ‘Reel Spinners’.

For more information on registration, or to be a sponsor or volunteer, call Jo Ann Roberts at 315-244-1909 or email her at jo@slcchamber.org; or contact Bob Giordano, barrongd@aol.com, 315-323-4632.
