July 4 events planned in St. Regis Falls, Cranberry Lake, Gouverneur, Hannawa, Norwood, Morristown, Massena

Massena, Morristown, Norwood, and other communities around St. Lawrence County will celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, music, food, carnival rides and games this coming week.

Massena

This year’s Fireworks Extravanganza in Massena is scheduled for July 1, from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at St. Lawrence Centre, State Route 37, rain or shine.

The event is hosted by the Massena Chamber of Commerce.

Vendors, food, entertainment and kids activities are scheduled, with bounce houses by BD Entertain ment from 2-8 p.m.

Belly Buttons the Clown with balloon animals will be on hand, as well as fishing fun by the Nicandri Nature Center, a Seaway Valley Venom kids obstacle course and various demonstrations throughout the day.

Expected vendors include Paparazzi, La La Rue, Simplicity, Arbonne and local craftspeople.

Food will be available from Italian Affair, Seaway Valley Venom with burgers, fries and more, Buzz Bees Deli with popcorn and cotton candy, and Divalissa with popcorn. Adult beverages will be available for attendees 21 and older.

DJ Erich Ober will provide music throughout the day.

Fireworks by Majestic are expected to start about 10 p.m. and will be visible from state Route 37 in front of the mall and Alcoa Road.

Sponsors for the event include Danko Construction, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, Massena Savings & Loan, Sherwin Williams, Painting Etc., SeaComm, Massena International Campground, RSI Roofing Inc., Arconic, Italian Affair, Baxter’s One Stop Automotive, Community Bank, Tarbell Management Group and the Town of Massena.

Morristown

The fireworks display hosted by the fire department in Morristown is scheduled for Monday, July 3, at dusk behind the fire station. There will be vendors at the event.

The fire department’s parade steps off Tuesday, July 4, at 10 a.m. down Main Street. Local high school bands, fire departments and floats are expected.

At 11:30 a.m. the fire department will be serving barbecued chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian sausage, French fries, bread dough, snow cones and cotton candy

Antique tractor pulls also start at 11:30.

Norwood

The 82nd Norwood Firemen’s Field Day will step off with its block party dance July 3. The Brass Firemen will play in the park from 7-9 p.m. The band Tomb will perform from 9 p.m.-1 p.m.

There will be food, drinks and children’s games during the block party.

The block dance was originally started as an entertainment activity for the local firematics teams who attended the field days to compete. It has since grown to draw hundreds of people from around the region.

St. Andrew’s Church, 2 Park Ave., in Norwood, will host its St. Andrew’s Independence Day breakfast and 50/50 raffle on Tuesday, July 4, from 8 until 11 a.m. The meal costs $7 for adults, $5 ages 6-12 and free for under age five.

Official Field Day activities get started again later that afternoon with a Christmas In July themed parade starting at 1 p.m. Fire trucks and rescue vehicles, classic cars, and floats are again expected this year, with several different departments participating, including Potsdam, Norfolk, West Stockholm, Brasher and Winthrop.

The parade will step off on Maple Street, and travel down Lake Shore Drive, onto Spring, cross over to Bicknell Street, then to Fireman’s Field on Morgan Street.

Following the parade, drivers in the demolition derby will start their engines, drawing local competitors from around northern New York. The day will be filled with games, Cubby the Clown, food, drinks and carnival rides at fireman's field.

One of the largest fireworks displays in the county sparks off at dusk.

Hannawa Falls

In Hannawa Falls, the 33rd Robert Plumb Memorial Fireworks display by Majestic Fireworks will start in Postwood Park off the beach at dusk Sunday, July 2.

The display will be able to be seen from along State Highway 56.

Jake’s on the Water is the sponsor for this year’s event. Donations can be made there, The Country Store or at Chip’s Place.

Gouverneur

There will be a free fireworks show in Gouverneur on July 4 after dusk, around 9:30 p.m., at the St. Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

Vendors will be making rounds at the grounds with holiday themed items and food. A raffle will be held. The fairgrounds will open around 5 p.m.

Cranberry Lake

Local camp owners with frontage along Cranberry Lake in southern St. Lawrence County are expected to launch fireworks there again this year on July 4. Boat owners and beach goers are welcome to the community to enjoy the free display, which sees dozens of residents launching their contributions to the fiery light show from their docks.

St. Regis Falls

St. Regis Falls Volunteer Fire Department will host a July 4th Field Day. There will will be a parade, games, chicken barbecue, entertainment, food bingo, music, dancing, rides, food and fireworks at dusk.

The fire department is located at 7 N. River Road.
