HANNAWA FALLS -- The third annual “J.D.M. Musicfest” will be held Saturday, April 6 from noon to 10 p.m. at the Hannawa Falls fireman’s field.

Jesse McCarthy, 23, lost his life in an accident Sept. 17, 2009.

He was an avid sportsman and guitar player who loved blues music.

The following spring his aunts and friends created the Music Award Program in his memory. The program is designed to help local students further their music interests, through lessons, equipment, or forms of assistance.

This year the Max Ryder Band will host the benefit with bands Raven, Voss Fernandas and the Flying Coconuts, Special Ed & Friends and Brad & Shawn, along with other local talent.

Raffles, food and music will be featured.

Volunteers and donations for the event are still needed. Contact Crystal McCarthy, 261-1021 or Michelle Pharoah, 212-5186 to volunteer.

Students in grades five through 12 can apply for a music award by contacting McCarthy, Pharoah or Ed McCarthy at 854-5057.
