POTSDAM -- Family, friends and supporters of Katie (Nelson) Smith, a 26-year-old Ogdensburg native and longtime Potsdam resident, are hosting a jamboree to help raise funds for Smith as she battles breast cancer. The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Potsdam Elks Club, from noon-6 p.m.

The jamboree will offer free entry to all guests.

There will be catering donated by Sergi’s Potsdam and entertainment provided by Good Guys Entertainment.

A 50/50 raffle as well as a large number of gift basket raffles will take place thanks to generous donations from local businesses and individuals. Raffle items range from candy and chocolates, wine, gift certificates, golf and hunting gear, St. Lawrence University clothing, jewelry from local artisans, rustic signage, photography sessions by local photographers, fitness center passes, bath & body products, themed foods, liquor, home goods, and more.

There will be a silent auction with items including a four pack of tickets and parking passes for the Tuesday, March 14, Ottawa Senators vs. Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game, which is also “bobblehead night.”

Donations are welcome up to the day of the jamboree. They can be dropped off in advance to the Potsdam Police Department, or to Jeremy and Krystal (Nelson) Rose, Smith’s sister and brother-in-law, at their home in Ogdensburg.

Smith is the mother of 4-year-old Kane and 2-year-old Ali Mary-Kate and the wife of John Smith, a police officer.

She was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ just after Christmas and will be battling the disease mainly in Burlington, Vermont, over the next several months. The care will require several trips back and forth for major surgery, treatments and checkups.

All proceeds of the jamboree will support the Smith family’s travel and unexpected medical bills.

A Go Fund Me page has also been set up and donations may be made there before or after the Jamboree.
