CANTON -- The Jerod Stephen Doyle trio will perform Thursday, Sept. 21, from 8-10 p.m. at the Buccaneer Lounge, 4 W. Main St.
The band is a live instrumental improv trio based Potsdam formed in 2015.
The trio is comprised of Jerod Sommerfeldt (modular synthesizer + computer), who teaches electronic music at the Crane School of Music; Stephen Bird (bass), who teaches environmental science at Clarkson University and studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston; and Doyle Dean (drums), a videographer and instructor of audio and video production at SUNY Potsdam.
The trio plays a unique form of improvised instrumental music.
"We think about it in terms of temporary aural art. We never have and never plan to play the same piece twice. We are primarily affected by the environment in which we play, the size of the room, the mood of the audience, the weather… all of these factors have primary influence on what is performed. Because there is no 'set list' we are 100% reactive," said a press release from the band.
The band has two recordings, "Jerod Stephen Doyle" and part of the 2-CD set from Dean's Utility Project called "Moultin' Larva" recorded this year 2017. Both are available at bandcamp.com.
