‘I Can Feel Better Workshops’ in Ogdensburg and Canton begin in May

The Health Initiative is offering six week chronic disease self-management workshops in the following locations beginning in May:

• Ogdensburg: Tuesday, May 1 to June 5, 1:30 to 4 p.m., Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Conference Room

• Canton: Monday, May 14 to June 18, 1 to 3:30 p.m., Canton Community Health Ctr.

These free weekly workshops are open to adults living with any chronic, ongoing health concern. Caregivers and loved ones are welcome to attend as well.

People dealing with chronic disease often face pain, stress, tension, depression, and other condition-specific symptoms each day. The I Can Feel Better program focuses on helping patients understand how they can break the symptom cycle, and improve their quality of life.

The six-week workshops are highly interactive and provide the tools needed to manage symptoms, work with health care professionals, set weekly goals for behavior change, problem-solve, use relaxation techniques, handle difficult emotions, eat well, and exercise safely and easily.

The workshops are designed for those with any chronic condition, and is especially helpful for those with multiple challenges. They use a chronic disease self management curriculum developed at Stanford University. The program has been proven to reduce frequent hospitalizations and ER visits, give individuals more control over their conditions, and reduce disease symptoms.

Refreshments are served at each session, and all participants receive a complimentary copy of the book “Living a Healthy Live with Chronic Conditions.”

Pre-registration is required by contacting Linda Caamaño at the Health Initiative, 261-4760 x230 or at linda@gethealthyslc.org
