CANTON -- St. Lawrence University will host Susan Thomson, a human rights lawyer and assistant professor of peace and conflict studies at Colgate University, who will deliver the 2015 C.L.R. James lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in Griffiths Arts Center, room 123.
In her talk, “A Tale of Two Rwandas: Restoring Peace or Forcing Reconciliation?” Thomas will draw on her own research exploring peace and reconciliation processes in Rwanda since 1994. While this small East African nation has grappled with peace and reconciliation, robust economic growth and peace has been the more recent story of Rwanda. However, beyond the public sphere, the nation is still grappling with the deep scars of genocide.
