NORFOLK -- This Sunday, Oct. 3, Plumbrook Pony Farm is hosting their annual fall event, “Concours D'Autumne.”
Eventing, also called the horse triathlon, is probably the most comprehensive equestrian sport. The contest consists of three parts: the precision of dressage, the courage of cross country, and the obedience of stadium jumping.
The cross-country portion of the event is considered by far the most important part, with the scoring ration being 12:3:1 for cross-country, dressage, and jumping. The heavy focus on cross-country derives from the history of eventing as a cavalry exercise. It is scored on a penalty system in which the various events are differentially weighted to get a total score that reflects the performance of horse and rider in each phase.
Sunday's event will begin at 9 a.m. at the farm on Cty. Rt. 38 in Norfolk. All are welcome to cheer for their favorite riders in this fun and friendly competition.
