OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum, 303 Washington St., is hosting a holiday open house from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30. Admission is free. The public is invited to stop in during the Museum’s special extended hours for festive decorations, exhibits, holiday music, local makers, and discounts in The Museum Shop.

At 5 p.m., guests can enjoy music of the North Country Connections Orchestra. The orchestra is a combined group of multi-age and multi-level performers, playing Christmas favorites such as “Silent Night,” “Greensleeves,” “O Holy Night,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and many others. They will also be performing some favorites from the classical and popular genres such as "Autumn" from Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons," “Jupiter" from Holst's “The Planets,” "Ashokan Farewell," by Jay Ungar, and "Country Waltz," a Joplin Rag, "The Easy Winners” and a finale which includes a piece called, "Who Let the Elves Out?"

Members of the orchestra include Lorie Gruneisen, director (and violin), Tina Struss of Lisbon, Terry Cove of Heuvelton, Dino Hukovic of Morristown; Clayton Hardiman, Ellie Meyers, Hannah Holt, and Owen Hardiman, all of Potsdam; Julie Cliff of Ogdensburg and Samantha Flynn of Heuvelton; and guest pianist Christine Bookman, piano and percussion.

From 6-6:30 p.m. community members are welcome to join in with a Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long with Lori Gruneisen on the piano. Words sheets will be available.

While parents explore the museum and shop, children are invited to make hot cocoa, read holiday books, and enjoy making crafts with children’s librarian Dorian Lenney-Wallace of the Ogdensburg Public Library. This activity is free for children.

Local weaver Cait Throop will attend with her handwoven wearable art, including free-form jackets, scarves, wraps, cuffs and towels. All one-of-a-kind or limited editions. She will also offer weaving demonstrations throughout the event. Debbie Monteith will also offer her handcrafted jewelry.

J. Hackett Cliff & Co. will attend with specialty jams and jellies, and Coyote Moon Vineyards with holiday wine sampling and bottles for sale. Mark Berninghausen of Squeak Creek Apiaries will bring his honey, including 12-ounce Honeybears, one-pound jars and 8-ounce jars. Also new this year, artist-blacksmith James Gonzalez of Farm House Forge will offer investment-quality ironwork including racks, hooks, and other art.

Local author Diane LaRock will attend with her children’s books, “Grandma’s Garden” and “Grandma’s Garden Coloring Book.” Barbara Briggs Ward will sign copies of her Christmas Trilogy including “The Reindeer Keeper,” “The Snowman Maker” and “The Candle Giver.”

The Frederic Remington Art Museum galleries will be open to the public during the event. The Museum will have docents on hand. Visitors can also view the 2017 International Juried Art Exhibit in the Richard E. Winter and Torrey Family Galleries. Purchases of art from this exhibit benefits both the artist and the museum.

New for the holiday, the Museum Shop will have a limited number of crystal ornaments featuring the iconic Broncho Buster. As always for the open house, the ahop offers discounts on select items in celebration of the season.

During any visit to the Museum, guests can bid generously on several items on display in a small silent auction in the Hirschey Gallery. In addition, raffle tickets will be available for $10 each for an overnight stay at Singer Castle. All drawings will be held Nov. 30 at the end of the open house.
