POTSDAM – Power skating specialist and coach Karen Healey will present a twice-weekly school for school-age hockey players July 20 to Aug. 18 at Clarkson University’s Cheel Arena.
All levels are welcome, from beginner through high school.
All aspects of skating will be covered, including fast starts, powerful strides, quickness, agility, balance and recovery. Proper technique and form will taught and demonstrated.
Hockey players will train every Tuesday and Thursday on ice for one hour and off ice for one hour each session. A total of eight sessions will be offered.
Beginners, Mites and Squirts will be on the ice from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and off ice from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Pee Wees, Bantams, Midgets and high school players will do dry land training from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and be on the ice from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Players are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Full gear and stick are required for on-ice training. Participants should bring t-shirt, shorts and sneakers for dryland workouts.
Cost for the four-week school is $180.
