Hobble Gobble Prediction Run/Walk charity fundraiser set for Nov. 19

WEST POTSDAM -- The 19th Hobble Gobble Prediction Run/Walk charity fundraiser is set for Saturday, Nov. 19.

More than 500 participants are expected at this year’s running of the popular event.

So far, organizer Derry Loucks says registrations have come in from places as diverse and far away as Pennsylvania, Binghamton, Troy, Rochester, Buffalo, Cazenovia, Brooklyn and Ontario.

The Hobble Gobble has raised $10,000 or more on race day each year in support of the Potsdam Holiday Fund, area Neighborhood Centers, and other local charities.

The registration fee for competitors aged 2 to 18 is $20, and for those aged 19 and over, $35.

Registration ends Wednesday, Nov. 16 at midnight. More information is at northernrunner.org, where entrants can download a registration form and be linked to events.com for online registration. There will be no registration on race day. Registration is capped at 575 runners and walkers.

The object of the competition is not to race one another but to be the ones who most accurately predict how long it will take them to finish the course.

There are two courses to choose from, one of less than four miles and another of less than eight miles.

More precise distances will be announced race morning to give predictors a better idea of what their times might be.

The eight closest predictors on the short course and four closest on the long course win a frozen turkey, a trophy, and their names on next year's event shirt. Awards will be given at about 1 p.m.

As usual there will be an assortment of entertainment attractions for the contestants and fans, including cheerleaders, live music and DJs.

The competitors jump off at 11:15 a.m. from the West Potsdam Bingo Hall, 77 Blanchard Road, West Potsdam.
