Higley Hundred Bike ride planned Sept. 9 in Colton

COLTON — The 13th annual Higley Hundred Bike ride will be held Saturday Sept. 9 with 100km and 50km bike rides beginning at Higley Flow State Park.

The start and finish will be at the Higley Trails Lodge - 200 yards past the park entrance booth on the right. The 100k ride starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 50k ride at 10 a.m.

The rides (not races) will be mainly on secondary roads, with new courses planned for both distances. A support vehicle will be available for riders having technical problems. Each rider will be provided with a course map and cue sheet noting all turns. The rides are on public roads, mainly rural, but with short sections on state highways.

At the end, all participants join in a barbecue at the Trails Lodge. The park will be closed to camping by then, but the road in and bathroom facilities will be open. The rides are sponsored by The Friends of Higley Flow State Park, who raise funds for park improvements such as the Trails Lodge, completed in 2014.

Registration forms for the bike rides can be picked up in Potsdam at The Treadmill bicycle shop. Registration can also be done by downloading a form at www.higleyfriends.org or bikereg.com/higley-hundred. The registration fee of $30 must be received by Sept. 8, otherwise race-day registration costs $40.

A commemorative t-shirt can be ordered for registrations received by Aug. 29.
